WHCC Children’s Ministry

The Children’s Ministry at Western Hills Church of Christ
exists to partner with parents in teaching our kids to know
and love God. We believe that becoming more like Jesus is
an incredible adventure for both children and their families
and we are honored to be a part of that adventure.

We do this by…

Helping our children grow in knowledge. We offer Gospel-centered, developmentally appropriate Bible classes on Sunday mornings (9:30 AM) and Wednesday evenings (6:30 PM.) We also offer age-specific classes/worship opportunities during our 10:30 Sunday morning worship service (See SonShine Express and Junior Junction sections below)

Helping our children grow in relationship with each other and with other generations. We believe it’s important for our kids to have friendships with children who share a faith so they can help each other along their faith journeys. We also believe that it’s equally important for our children to develop relationships with other generations within the church family. To encourage these relationships we begin with our children in worship service before being dismissed to SonShine Express, offer opportunities for intergenerational small groups, host various church family activities, and provide a quarterly family worship experience.

Working to strengthen our families. We have hosted various conferences over the last 10 years, including both parenting and marriage seminars. We also offer parenting/marriage Bible classes from time to time, as well as providing opportunities for parents and children to bond through special family events!

SonShine Express

SonShine Express is part of the Children's Ministry that
meets during worship service at Western Hills Church of
Christ. The program services children from 4 years to 5th
grade. It is made possible by many adult and teen volunteers.
In this program, children are introduced to Bible stories and concepts through singing, video
clips, stories, games, and crafts. The children are taught about God's love to help them

develop a firm foundation in their relationship with Him.

Junior Junction

In an effort to accommodate the growing number of children and families attending Western Hills, Junior Junction was launched in 2011. This ministry services young children ages 2-3. The children in Junior Junction are dismissed from worship service after communion and are led in developmentally appropriate activities including dramatic play, story time, and art. The focus of this class is to establish a firm foundation for the next generation of Christ's disciples by introducing them to a good God who loves them.

Light of Mine Story Time

During the school year we offer a bi-weekly story time for preschoolers and their caregivers. We sing and talk about God, read a story, make a craft, and enjoy some playtime with our friends! It's a great opportunity for fellowship for both the children and their parents/grandparents.

Special Events

In addition to meeting on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, the children from SonShine Express have also boarded our life-sized trolley to share the love of Christ with our community in some local parades and have had the opportunity to participate in several special events throughout the year including Princess Teas, Cowboy BBQs, Tuesday Out summer events, VBS, Fall Fest, Backpacks of Blessings Service Project, Parents’ Night Out, etc. We enjoy spending time together, whether learning about God in a classroom or being out in our community.
